Air New Zealand (ASX:AIZ, NZE:AIR) repurchased for cancellation 1.1 million ordinary shares, according to a Thursday filing with the New Zealand and Australian bourses.

The company acquired 208,121 ordinary shares on New Zealand's Stock Exchange at an average price of NZ$0.6223 each and 350,000 ordinary shares on the Australian Securities Exchange for an average price of AU$0.5625.

It also acquired off-market 580,900 shares from the finance minister for NZ$0.6201 apiece.

Its shares fell 3% in recent trading on the New Zealand bourse.
