Slowing Travel To and Within the U.S. Poses Headwind for Online Booking Platforms -- Market Talk

1426 ET - Tariffs pose next to no direct cost increases for online travel agencies, but slowing travel to and within the U.S. could hit near-term earnings outlooks and investor sentiment, Baird analysts say in a research note. "Heightened geopolitical and trade policy uncertainties are severely impacting inbound international travel to the United States, particularly from Canada and Europe," the analysts say, adding domestic travel demand has also slowed amid government-related spending cuts. As a result, Booking Holdings appears to be positioned better than Expedia given it has more exposure to international markets that have been performing better than those in the U.S. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
