Air New Zealand (ASX:AIZ, NZE:AIR) repurchased for cancellation 824,771 ordinary shares, according to a Monday filing with the New Zealand and Australian bourses.

The company acquired 182,676 ordinary shares on New Zealand's Stock Exchange at an average price of NZ$0.6062 each and 221,462 ordinary shares on the Australian Securities Exchange for an average price of AU$0.5504.

It also acquired off-market 420,633 shares from the finance minister for NZ$0.6034 apiece.

The company's shares fell 5% on the Australian bourse and 6% on the New Zealand bourse.
