Viewing insider transactions for NPK International Inc.'s (NYSE:NPKI ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net buyers. This means that a larger number of shares were purchased by insiders in relation to shares sold.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Director John Minge for US$54k worth of shares, at about US$5.38 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$5.46. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. Happily, the NPK International insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. John Minge was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.
