Amazon.com bought some inventory in advance of tariffs to keep prices low and renegotiated the terms of deals with some suppliers, CEO Andy Jassy said Thursday.
"We're going to do everything we possibly can to keep prices low for customers," Jassy said in an interview on CNBC.
President Trump on Wednesday announced a 90-day pause on some tariffs and announced that China's tariffs would rise to 125%.
Jassy said he thinks sellers will pass on any increase in cost to consumers because their margins aren't big enough to absorb them.
The Journal reported Wednesday that Amazon has cancelled some vendor orders from China after tariffs were announced.
He said the company is in regular touch with the Trump administration and has discussed concerns related to tariffs.
