The Wrkr Ltd (ASX:WRK) share price has had a bad week, falling 16%. But that does not change the realty that the stock's performance has been terrific, over five years. Indeed, the share price is up a whopping 350% in that time. Arguably, the recent fall is to be expected after such a strong rise. The most important thing for savvy investors to consider is whether the underlying business can justify the share price gain.
Since the long term performance has been good but there's been a recent pullback of 16%, let's check if the fundamentals match the share price.

Given that Wrkr didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.
For the last half decade, Wrkr can boast revenue growth at a rate of 34% per year. That's well above most pre-profit companies. Arguably, this is well and truly reflected in the strong share price gain of 35%(per year) over the same period. Despite the strong run, top performers like Wrkr have been known to go on winning for decades. On the face of it, this looks lke a good opportunity, although we note sentiment seems very positive already.

Investors should note that there's a difference between Wrkr's total shareholder return (TSR) and its share price change, which we've covered above. The TSR attempts to capture the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested) as well as any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings offered to shareholders. We note that Wrkr's TSR, at 378% is higher than its share price return of 350%. When you consider it hasn't been paying a dividend, this data suggests shareholders have benefitted from a spin-off, or had the opportunity to acquire attractively priced shares in a discounted capital raising.
We're pleased to report that Wrkr shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 59% over one year. Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 37% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. To that end, you should learn about the 2 warning signs we've spotted with Wrkr (including 1 which makes us a bit uncomfortable) .
