Hong Kong Shares End Higher; Auto, Chip Stocks Lead Gains -- Market Talk

0837 GMT - Hong Kong shares ended higher, with the Hang Seng Index rising 1.1% to 20914.69. The Hang Seng Tech Index gained 1.8%. China increased tariffs imposed on the U.S. to 125%, adding that they will disregard any further tariff increases from the U.S. Among major stocks, auto and semiconductor companies led the gains. BYD gained 7.15% and Geely Automobile Holdings rose 6.4%. SMIC gained 5.9% after an industry association issued new guidance for Chinese companies navigating ongoing trade tensions. Anta Sports rose 2.8% after announcing a deal to acquire German outdoor gear maker Jack Wolfskin. Decliners included Trip.com, which was 4.6% lower, and Alibaba, which dropped 1.7%.
