BlockBeats News, April 15: Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that talks with the United States on a mineral resource agreement are proceeding positively, and more meetings will be held in the future.
BlockBeats previously reported that on March 28, a draft proposal summary revealed that the Trump administration had put forward a new, broader mineral agreement with Ukraine. Sources said the U.S. had amended the initial proposal, no longer offering future security guarantees to Ukraine but instead requiring it to contribute all revenue from the use of natural resources managed by state-owned and private enterprises within Ukraine to a joint investment fund.
The terms proposed by Washington far exceeded the agreement discussed in the days leading up to the controversial Oval Office meeting between Trump and Zelensky last month. One source mentioned that U.S. Treasury Secretary Benson has been representing the U.S. in the negotiations. Additionally, according to the summary, the proposal did not address the issue of U.S. ownership of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, a point that Trump had previously raised.
