Nvidia, AMD, Super Micro Computer Shares Rise on Tariff Exemptions

Shares of Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices, and Super Micro Computer rose Monday as investors rallied behind the company's prospects after falling under exemptions from broad tariffs set in place by the Trump administration.

Nvidia was up 3.4% to $115.02 in premarket trading, while AMD rose 4.4% to $97.47. Super Micro jumped 5.9% to $35.10.

Chip companies Nvidia and AMD as well as server maker Super Micro benefited after a notice from U.S. Customs and Border Protection posted late Friday said computers, tablets, Apple watches, computer monitors, semiconductor equipment and other electronics were exempt from many tariffs on Chinese products and a 10% tariff on all U.S. imports.

But investors will be looking for more clarity from President Trump, who said on Saturday that he would talk more about them on Monday, adding that "we'll be very specific."

Investors appear to be betting that while Trump will want to maintain much of his tariffs on China, certain exemptions will remain in place to avoid significant costs being passed on to consumers. The ubiquity of products from Nvidia, AMD and Super Micro in an array of electronics means any relief from tariffs will give a boost to the companies and offer a more predictable environment amid a brewing trade war.
