Ferrari (RACE) will launch its first-ever electric vehicle model called Ferrari Elettrica this year, Chairman John Elkann said Wednesday during the company's annual general meeting.

The luxury sports car manufacturer will also launch five other new models, along with the Elettrica, in the sports cars category, Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna said.

Ferrari will hold its Capital Markets Day on Oct. 9 at which time it will unveil the Elettrica, the company previously said in February.
