Honda Motor (HMC) said Tuesday it will not be moving any production from Canada to the US.

Nikkei reported earlier that the automaker was considering to move some of its production out of Canada and Mexico to avoid tariffs by the US government.

In its statement, Honda Canada said it "can confirm that our Canadian manufacturing facility in Alliston, Ontario, will operate at full capacity for the foreseeable future and no changes are being considered at this time."

Honda Canada declined to comment on specifics of the reports, although it said it "constantly" reviews its options to address future contingencies and will occasionally elects temporary production strategy shifts from one facility to another "to mitigate negative impacts on [its] business."

Anita Anand, Canadian industry minister, citing conversations with company officials, also said on Tuesday the report was false. "Honda has communicated that no such production decisions affecting Canadian operations have been made, and are not being considered at this time," she posted on X.

Measured by volume, Honda said it was the second largest auto manufacturer in Canada during 2024, with about 69% of the vehicles it sold in Canada produced in the country.

Honda shares recently were up more than 1%.
