There is "a good chance" the U.S. can strike a trade deal with the U.K, Vice President JD Vance said in an interview published Tuesday.

Vance told news website UnHerd the Trump administration is working hard with the U.K. government on a deal. The U.S. imposed baseline tariffs of 10% on the U.K. on April 5.

"The President really loves the United Kingdom. He loved the Queen. He admires and loves the King. It is a very important relationship," Vance said. "I think there's a good chance that, yes, we'll come to a great agreement that's in the best interest of both countries."

It will be harder for other European countries to strike trade deals, Vance said, highlighting Germany as a country that exported heavily to the U.S. The share of German exports to the U.S. hit its highest level last year since 2002, data indicated Monday.

Asked about Vance's comments, the British trade and business minister, Sarah Jones, told the BBC talks were ongoing and the U.K. was in a "good position."
