Market Chatter: Limited Impact Expected For South Korean Chipmakers from New US Nvidia Export Restrictions

South Korean chipmakers are expected to witness minimal impact from new US restrictions on Nvidia's H20 AI accelerator exports to China, Yonhap News reported Wednesday, citing analysts.

While SK Hynix (KRX:000660) supplies HBM3E memory for the H20 chips, it has already locked in sales contracts and is now focusing on more advanced 12-layer HBM3E chips for non-Chinese markets. Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) is not involved in H20-related HBM supply, the report said.

Nvidia, meanwhile, anticipates a $5.5 billion hit due to the licensing requirement now imposed by US authorities on H20 exports, according to the report.
