Financial stocks fell premarket Monday with the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) 0.6% lower recently.
The Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 2.2% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 2.1% higher.
Capital One Financial (COF) and Discover Financial Services (DFS) said the Federal Reserve System's board of governors and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency have approved Capital One's planned acquisition of Discover. Shares of Capital One Financial were up over 4% and Discover Financial Services shares were over 7% higher pre-bell.
