Snap Sued in Florida Over Alleged Harm to Minors and Law Violations

Snap (SNAP), the parent company of messaging app Snapchat, is being sued in Florida, Attorney General James Uthmeier said Wednesday, for allegedly violating child safety laws and deceiving parents about the app's risks.

Uthmeier's lawsuit claims Snap violated HB 3, a law designed to protect young people from the perceived dangers of social media, by offering addictive features such as infinite scroll, auto-play, SnapStreaks, and push notifications to users under the age of 16 without proper consent.

Uthmeier's office said Snap continues to market Snapchat as safe for teens "even though it knows that Snapchat can be easily used to access pornography and buy drugs, among other dangers."

Snapchat did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
