1128 ET - Comerica's management downplayed its M&A approach for the year, both as a buyer and seller, on an earnings call with analysts, Truist analysts Brian Foran and Chris Lian say in a research note. On the sell side, executives said the company is focused on its independence but would need to earn that independence, according to the note. On the buying side, management said the outlook is "murky" given that regulation, the economy and interest rates are all currently in flux, the analysts say. Comeria thinks the next 12 to 18 months might be quiet for deals industrywide, the analysts say. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
