The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was down 0.3% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.4% lower in Friday's premarket activity as strong tech earnings were tempered by trade tensions.
US stock futures were also lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.3%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.5%, and Nasdaq futures losing 0.4% before the start of regular trading.
The University of Michigan consumer sentiment report will be released at 10 am ET, followed by the weekly Baker Hughes domestic oil-and-gas rig count at 1 pm ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was up by 1.1% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 1.1% higher.

Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLI) retreated 0.5% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) gained 0.7% and the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) was flat.
Saia (SAIA) stock was down more than 19% before the opening bell after the company reported lower Q1 earnings.

Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) retreated 0.7%, and the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.7% lower, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was down 0.9%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) gained 0.03%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) declined 1.2%.
Pony AI (PONY) shares were up nearly 8% in recent Friday premarket activity after the company said it signed a collaboration with Tencent Cloud and Smart Industries Group for autonomous driving technology and commercialization of Robotaxi services.
Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) retreated 0.4%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) was flat while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) slipped 0.02%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 0.4% lower.
AbbVie (ABBV) stock was up more than 3% premarket after the company reported higher Q1 adjusted earnings and revenue.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) retreated 0.6%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 1.8%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 1.8% higher.
Aon (AON) shares were down 3.1% pre-bell Friday after the company reported lower-than-expected Q1 adjusted earnings and revenue.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) was down 1%.
Phillips 66 (PSX) stock was down 2% before Friday's opening bell after the company swung to a Q1 loss.
Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) was down 0.04%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was flat. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) advanced 0.1%, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) gained 0.1%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was inactive, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) was down 0.2%.
Colgate-Palmolive (CL) shares were up 1.3% pre-bell after the company posted higher Q1 non-GAAP earnings.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 1.2% to $62.03 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas retreated 1.2% to $2.89 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund (USO) was down by 1%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 1.5% lower.
Gold futures for June were down 1.3% at $3,304.80 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures retreated 0.9% to $33.52 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 1.5%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 0.5% lower.
