2.3  Tax due day and the tax year in New Zealand

In New Zealand, the standard tax year is from 1 April to 31 March.

Take an example: For the tax year from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023, you’ll have to file your tax return by 7 July 2023 and pay your tax by 7 February 2024.

If you have an extension, or use an accountant or a tax agent, the filling date can be extended to 31 March 2024 and the due date of your first terminal tax bill is 7 April 2024
